Rape of minors has become a disturbing trend in the country and has many advocates of rape and Gender-Based Violence seeking tough penalties for culprits.

Some of the penalties recommended are death, castration and life-sentence.

According to GBV abolishment advocate Nafisa Zaki, “rape does not necessarily have to be forceful sexual intercourse or sexual acts without the consent or against the will of the other person, as many people think, it also includes luring.”

“The age and situation for consensual sexual activity is clearly described by law, therefore, when a minor is lured and had sexual activity with, even with the minor’s consent, it is legally regarded as rape”, she explained.

She said that rape is a wide and serious topic that people need to pay attention to in order to avoid and prevent it.
