As part of its effort to improve the welfare and wellbeing of orphans, widows and less privileged in the society, a Sokoto-based Non-governmental Organization, Al-Yateem Charity Initiative, on Tuesday, which was also Eid el Kabir to all Muslim faithful across the globe, slaughtered a Cow and two Rams for orphans and the needy to mark Eid el Kabir celebration which is celebrated by sacrificing animals.

The project, which took place at the residence of the organisation’s Secretary General at Shuni Road, Mabera area in Sokoto state, was first of its kind since the inception of the organization more than half a decade ago.

President of the organization, Jabir Shinkafi, told Daily Star Nigeria that over 100 families have benefited from the project and that they look forward to a greater number next year and beyond.

“Before now, what we used to have during Eid el Kabir was Funfair for the Orphans, but this year, we introduced something new and more important considering the economic situation and tremendous hike in prices of goods and services. We decided to make Eid sacrifice for the orphans and the needy and shared the meat to them”, Shinkafi said.

Al-Yateem Charity Initiative had been actively involved in helping orphans, widows and less fortunate members of the society.

It has provided food, clothing and water supply sources to thousands of vulnerable people in Sokoto state through its regular outreaches.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the organization for the kind gesture and prayed to Almighty Allah to continue to uplift them to a greater height.
