All preparations have been put in place for the Election of National Youth Council Of Nigeria, (NYCN) Sokoto State Chapter slated for Sunday December 20.

The Election is expected to commence anytime soon as against the 9am commencement time as earlier Stated at the Gingiya Memorial Stadium Sokoto.

Positions to be contested (those with opposition) include; President, Financial Secretary, Zonal Vice Chairman (South), Zonal Vice Chairman (East), Zonal Organising Secretary (Central, North and South), Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Social Secretary and Assistant P.R.O

For the post of the president, there are 3 contestants namely; Yakubu Abubakar, Sanusi Umar Sarki and Yusuf Muhammad but Sanusi Sarki, earlier today announced his Withdrawal from the race and pledged his support to his fellow contestant, Yakubu Abubakar.

The eligible voters for the Election are 3 Members each from the various youth organizations in the state who have registered with the State Ministry of Youths and Sport.

There is very tight security at the venue and its surroundings as different security agencies arrived the venue fully equipped with their Personnel.

The Independent Electoral Committee (IELCOM) comprises Election Committee, Accreditation Committee and Zonal Electoral Officers for Sokoto Central, South and North.

Some of the delegates who spoke to Daily Star Nigeria expressed their dismay over the failure to start the election on time.

Up till the time of filing this report, (past 12pm) the election was yet to commence.

When contacted, the IELCOM chairman said the delay was as a result of circumstances beyond their control but pleaded with the delegates to be more patient as they hoped to start the election anytime soon.

It will be recalled that on November 3rd this year, the leadership of the Sokoto State Chapter of NYCN was dissolved by the Honourable Commissioner of Youths and Sport, Hon. Bashir Gorau and an Interim Committee was set up which was headed by Abubakar Dangaskiya.
