In what many people see as a twist of events, Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has anointed his former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, to contest for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as the Governor of Sokoto state in 2023 election.

Tambuwal made his choice known during a stakeholders’ meeting at the International Conference Center, Ƙasarawa, Wednesday night.

The declaration by Tambuwal surprised and angered the supporters of his Deputy and long time friend, Hon Maniru Dan Iya, who caused some commotion outside the venue.

Meanwhile, Sagir Bafarawa, son of former Governor of the state, Alhaji Dalhatu Bafarawa, has been anointed to Deputise Ubandoma.

Bafarawa was also among the contenders for the seat of the Governor and was the first to have expressed interest in the seat among all the contenders.

In another development, former Deputy Governor of Sokoto state and son of former president Shehu Shagari has announced that he had left the PDP and that he would make his next destination known.

Shagari made the announcement on his Facebook wall hours after Tambuwal’s anointment.

It is believed that Shagari left the party because of what he believed to ne injustice to him by Governor Tambuwal and the party in the state.
