No fewer than 146 persons have died from cholera in 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kebbi state out of 21 LGAs while 2,208 hospitalised in various health facilities in the state.

The Chief Medical Director of Sir. Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Dr. Aminu Haliru Bunza, told newsmen via phone conversation in that the outbreak killed 146 people and hospitalised 2,208 hospitalised across 20 local government areas of the state.

“Out of the 21 local government areas, 20 have been affected by the contagious disease.

“The 2,208 people affected are the people that had been tested in those areas and unfortunately, 146 people died so far of the outbreak.

“These figure has cut across all sexes and no age bracket as all ages are affected,” he said.

According to him, the outbreak was caused by contamination as a result of mirco- bacteria.

Bunza stressed the need for the genera public to increase their hygiene ,environmental sanitation and cleanness.

“The state government is now doing its utmost best to contain the spread of the disease as we have taking steps to stem the spread of the disease.

“The state government has provided equipment and drugs to all the local government areas and trained health personnel to ensure the issue is being tackled even in the areas where the outbreak has not been recorded.

“We have surveillance officers and camps to isolate people as the disease is highly infectious,” he said.

The MD also called on health personnel to avoid rendering home services to suspected cases, urging people to report suspected cases to the nearest health facilities across the state.
