A Non- Governmental organization with the aim of reviving, documenting and showcasing the rich history and cultural heritage of Sokoto Caliphate has been launched in Sokoto.

The Initiative inaugurated its Patrons, Care -taker Executive Committee and Local Government Coordinators across the state.

The program was held at the New ICT Centre of the Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto, on Tuesday 8 September.

Highlight of the event was a paper presentation titled “Culture from the Islamic Perspective” delivered by Shaikh Dr. Muhammad Sani Jos in which he examined the role of culture in shaping the life and behaviors of people, especially youth, from an Islamic viewpoint.

Dr. Jos said that Islam has no problem with any culture as long as it does not corrupt the mind or the society.

He also mentioned that when Islam came, it did not discard good cultures but adapted and adopted them as well as fine-tuned the not-so-good ones.

Dr. Jos enjoined youths to always demonstrate good culture through their words and deeds and avoid all forms of corrupt practices.

Also, a poem on the Caliphate was recited by Balkisu Tambuwal, a poet from Sokoto state.

The event was attended by the Waziri of Sokoto Caliphate Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu (Wazirin Sokoto), Eng. Muhammad Jabbi Shagari (Ubandoman Shagari), Hon. Dr. Balarabe Shehu Kakale, Dr. Wadata Hakimi and Dr. Muhammad Sani Jos.

Others were Director-General Waziri Junaidu History and Culture Bureau, Director Culture from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Executive Director State Arabic and Islami Education Board.

In his remarks, the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, urged youths to be proud of their cultural heritage and always strive to preserve and promote it.

He commended the organisers for the initiative and assured that the Sokoto Sultanate Council would always encourage and support such kinds of initiatives.

The organization used the event to confer “Awards of Patronship” to some deserving sons of the Caliphate for their spectacular contributions to the development of the state.

The awardees include the renowned historian Malan Sambo Waliyi, Hon. Dr. Balarabe Shehu Kakale, Mmeber representing Dange,-Shuni, Tureta and Tangaza as well as Engineer Zayyanu Tambari Yabo, a young Energy expert and philanthropist.

Others were Dr. Shadi Sabeh, an Edupreneur, Malan Kabiru Aliyu, a philanthropist and Mansur Isah Buhari, a teacher and the Chief Editorial Advisor of Caliphate Post.

Chairman Board of Trustees of the Organization com. Nuraddeen Muhammad Mahe described their award as well deserved. He also disclosed that their selection was fully based on merit as the organization recognizes selfless service and acts of humanity.
