The Director General, National Automotive Design and Development Council, Jelani Aliyu, MFR, has urged Nigerians to do away with the appetite for foreign made cars and embrace locally produced ones in order to grow the local automotive industry in the country.

The DG disclosed this during the Nigeria at 60 Exhibition held in Abuja where the NADDC showcased a number of Nigerian produced/Assembled vehicles including the first Electric Car assembled in Nigeria and also the first Nigerian Assembled Autogas powered Van.

Mr. Aliyu said Nigerians needs to be more patriotic by patronising locally made cars thereby creating more job opportunities for unemployed Nigerians.

He added that when we buy cars assembled in other countries, we do it to the detriment of the Nigerian economy. But when we patronise locally produced vehicles, we help boost production capacity by local Automotive companies and grow the nation’s economy.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and Minister of Trade and Investment, Otumba Niyi Adebayo, who were also present at the event test drove the Kona EV. Osinbajo described the car as “Fantastic”.
