Kebbi State Government has commended people of Maiyama Local Government Area for their resilient effort in preventing miscreants from cutting down palm trees in the area.

The Commissioner for Higer Education, Prof. Mukhtar Bunza, made the commendation while briefing newsmen shortly after the state executive council’s meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

“The resolution of the executive council meeting chaired by Gov. Atiku Bagudu.

“The meeting was informed of numerous strides achieved by the various ministries in the state since the beginning of 2021.

“The council commended the resilience of people of Maiyama Local Government Area of the state, who resisted efforts by some miscreants to cut down about 80 palm trees.

“The council urges people in the state and encourages them to plant more trees instead of destroying them,” he said.

Bunza also said the council had noted the efforts of state Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries towards providing Yoghurt and Milk, and supporting pastoralists to facilitate the possession of NAFDAC registration in order to make their products acceptable.

“The ministry for higher education, it was noted that this administration upgraded School of Nursing and Mid- Wifery and School of Health Technology for full- fledged colleges.

“The Community Nursing and Mid- Wifery programme was also introduced in the college of Nursing sciences with a view to take healthcare service to the grassroots and hard-to-reach communities.

“The exco appreciated the eddoets made towards the take- off of the College of Agriculture, Zuru which has taken off but it could not have been successful and possible without the single honour of Gov. Bagudu by donating the institution and facilities therein,” he said.

On security, Bunza said that the state Ministry for Local Government and CH Affairs was directed to liaise with all the local government councils to assist the security agencies in maintaining peace and tranquillity.

“On lands and housings, the state Ministry of Lands and Housing has three initiatives which are aimed at providing decent and affordable housing in all parts of the state, especially to the law income earners and the less- privileged in the state.

“The programmes are in partnership with Omni- Frontiers African National Development Programme and Family Homes Funds Limited,” the commissioner said.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Alhaji Hayatu Bawa, refuted the social media report that the government could not pay 2020 leave grants to workers.

“The governor never said that, and he only said the government would put the payment into consideration,” Bawa said.
