President Muhammadu Buhari has approved 13.3 billion Naira for the takeoff of community policing as part of his government’s move to consolidate efforts aimed at containing the security situation in the country.

The approval was part of the resolutions of the sixth Virtual National Economic Council Meeting chaired by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The NEC directed the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum with two other Governors to meet with the Secretary of the Government of the Federation, the Minister of Finance and National Planning as well as the Inspector General of Police to coordinate the how the funds will be utilized.

It should be recalled that there have been series of debates for and against the issue of community policing in Nigeria.
