As a follow-up to existing collaboration to create awareness against cybercrime and finance-related crimes across the 23 Local Governments in Sokoto Statet, theDirector General ICT Dr Nasir Daniya, on behalf of Sokoto state government, met with the Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Sokoto Mr Bawa Usman Kaltungo.

Mr Kaltungo was represented by the second in command (2iC) Aliyu Yunusa and some members of the management team to finalise modalities for the commencement of state-wide corruption awareness campaign physically and virtually across various platforms in Sokoto State.

According to Dr Daniya, “if you can recall, Governor Tambuwal recently called on governments at all levels to take advantage of ICT to fight insecurity and crimes. This project is Governor Tambuwal walking the talk”.

“Therefore, Governor Tambuwal directed the ICT Directorate to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, which includes the EFCC, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) for implementation. The project was initially planned for 2020 but had to be rescheduled due to spike in Covid-19 in Nigeria” he added.

The program is under the supervision of the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Hon Manir Muhammad Dan Iya, who is also the overseer of the Ministry for Local Government and Community Development in Sokoto State.

All the 23 Local Governments in the State will partake in the scheduled activities. The campaign is billed to commence in early 2022.
