The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the renaming and relocation of some tertiary institutions in the state.

Sokoto state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal presided over the meeting held on Wednesday at the Government House Council Chamber, Sokoto.

The Institutions affected are Sokoto State University which now answers the name Abdullahi Fodiyo State University, and Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital which is named after Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Teaching Hospital.

Others are Shehu Shagari College of Education which is now named Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki College of Education Sokoto and State College of legal studies Wamakko which is now Haliru Binji College of Legal and Islamic Studies Wamakko.

The council also renamed the College of Agriculture Wurno to Shehu Malami College of Agriculture and Animal Science Wirno and College of Nursing Sciences Sokoto which is now named Balaraba Buda College of Nursing Sciences Sokoto.

Similarly, the Council approved the relocation of Shehu Shagari  University of Education to Tambuwal town, the headquarters of Tanbuwal local government of the state.

Mallam Abdullahi is a brother of the Caliphate founder, Usmanu Bin Fodio and founded the Gwandu emirate, while Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki is the 18th Sultan of Sokoto.

Abdullahi Fodio which was named after the State University is a brother of the Caliphate founder, Usmanu Bin Fodio and founded the Gwandu emirate, while Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki named after the erstwhile Shehu Shagari College of Education is the 18th Sultan of Sokoto.
