At least 15 bandits have been reported killed in a gun duel between the military and bandits in Anguwan Mallam, Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.

Daily Star Nigeria gathered that a military officer also lost his life in the fight on the side of the Army.

It was further learnt that the incident occurred on Saturday evening at about 4pm when the military men on patrol of the area sighted the bandits in Anguwan Mallam some few kilometers from Kontagora town.

“The presence of the military was what saved out community from the bandits. They came in their numbers on motorcycles and the people became scared because we don’t have what it takes to face them.

“But many were killed; we discovered dead bodies even today in the morning in the bush. We found their sleeping kits and some other valuable materials belonging to them,” a source disclosed.

Efforts to get reaction from the Public Relations Officer of the state Police command, Wasiu Abiodun, proved abortive as calls made to his mobile line were not responded to as at the time this report was filed in.
