President Bola Tinubu has signed the bill to reinstate the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” into law.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced this at a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on Wednesday.

During his address to the lawmakers, President Tinubu mentioned that he will soon introduce the 2024 Supplementary Bill.

In his welcome address, Senate President Akpabio noted that the President stopped by to greet the lawmakers as he was in the building to commission the National Assembly Library.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, apologized for the earlier misinformation regarding the President’s visit, acknowledging it was an error on the part of the National Assembly.

“The President has indicated that any speeches should be postponed until June 12, which is Democracy Day. On that day, he will officially initiate the recitation of the reinstated national anthem after giving his assent, before proceeding to other important engagements.”
